One of my biggest passions in life has to be foraging for wild foods, specifically mushrooms.

At the right time  of year, when I’m not working, you will most likely find me in the woods with a basket In hand, searching for wild foods. In the springtime when the temperature starts to climb, I’m searching for morel mushrooms. To my mind, morels- with their distinct conical cap and honeycombed surface- are the quintessential spring mushroom. Morels are unlike any other mushrooms, they have a hearty, savoury flavour that pairs perfectly with the grilled and roasted meats we love to serve at this time of year. Another spring delicacy we collect is ramps. These are a cross between a scallion and a leek with garlic-like fragrance. We pickle these and use them year round.

In the late summer- early fall, when the nights get colder I start searching for chanterelle and porcini mushrooms. Both are absolutely delicious and highly prized.

This passion for foraging has been beneficial in providing Grapevine with seasonal fresh organic produce of a quality that is unsurpassed.
